The finish goes on! I chose Target Coatings Oxford water-based lacquer
for this project. After sealing with de-waxed shellac, I used a matt white
lacquer tinted
slightly with brown dye and top coated with semi-gloss clear. Although this was
my first
experience with both HVLP spraying and with lacquer, I’m pleased with the
results. I’m
sure that over time, my technique will improve, too. All that is left is to
install the top once
the island is moved into the house and kitchen. As an aside...the expanded shop
really helped
to ease the finishing process for this project! It was great having an open area
to shoot the
finish in...and it meant I could do some turning between coats...<G>
