Kids Bedroom Furniture - Construction Pictorial
Multiple projects are currently underway in this
small woodworking shop. These beds
and nightstands
are for my teenage nieces. Built of poplar milled
on our property,
they are based on a Thos. Moser
Shaker design. These are now finished
and have been
an enjoyable project to
build with multiple mortise and tennon joints
and
dovetailed drawers.
The photos below are of the beds, desk and nightstands after the
finish was competed. The night-
stands have several coats of garnet shellac and are top coated with polyurethane
to
protect them from spills, et. This coloration contrasts nicely with the darker
color of the
desk and the beds. The finish for the latter is an Antique Cherry water-based
dye followed
by several coats of garnet shellac. The desk is also top coated with
polyurethane for
protection. (If you like the desk, free plans and an article will soon be posted
on this site) The
beds are top coated with Target Coatings Oxford WB Lacquer.
