What About Turning?

Woodturning is one of the more rewarding wood-working activities you can experience...and it’s one of the most addictive! Watching an ordinary piece of wood take shape before your eyes is an amazing sight and the “instant gratification” you can achieve can be quite enjoyable.

I turn wood for several reasons. In some cases, it’s to augment a furniture project like the Nakashima-style chairs I’m building for our eating area. I often turn in between steps of my other projects while an glue assembly cures or at the end of the day to relax. And I also turn for the sake of turning...this is a true art-form.

If you have not tried woodturning, check for a local chapter of the American Association of Woodturners near you and attend a meeting or two to see what it is all about You’ll be glad you did!
